Earth Observation is the science of collecting information about our planet from satellites, drones, aircraft, and ground sensors. The data helps us understand Earth’s systems, track changes over time, and make informed decisions about farming, conservation, cities, and disaster response.
This is why maths matters. It plays an important role in real-world solutions. In partnership with RMIT University (School of Science), Cosmos has created content for you and younger readers to see maths in action.
There are four different ways to understand the topic:
- Maths and maps: Powerful tools for disaster relief and building a liveable planet is an online explainer that looks at why maths matters.
- How maths and maps can shape a sustainable future is a visual story, with engaging images and bite sized facts.
- A teacher resource PDF includes tasks for the classroom, a practical task, learning objectives and links to the curriculum.
- A student factsheet PDF provides upper primary school kids with an engaging two-page information sheet. Parents can also download the factsheet for their kids.
