Australia has seen a bounce in reported COVID-19 cases as hospital numbers continue to climb.

Seven states and territories collectively reported 23,743 cases in the last seven days.

That equates to 10% more new cases than the previous weekly figure, even without the NT reporting figures.

2,020 people were hospitalised with COVID-19 across the nation. That’s a similar figure to those in hospital at the end of January (more than 2,300 across all states and territories).

New South Wales saw the biggest week-on-week increase in case numbers – up 40% – with 7,273 cases reported last week. Queensland saw 17% more cases than the week prior, reporting a total of 4,060.

Other states saw more modest increases in case numbers – Victoria up four percent and the ACT up three.

In the past week, NSW reported 7,273 new cases, 29 deaths, 1,139 hospitalisations and 26 people in ICU.

Victoria reported 6,052 new cases, 40 deaths, 298 hospitalisations and 18 people in ICU.

Queensland reported 4,060 new cases, 16 deaths, 236 hospitalisations and five in ICU.

WA reported 3,133 new cases, 13 deaths, 146 hospitalisations and two people in ICU.

SA reported 2,509 new cases, 36 deaths, 126 hospitalisations and one person in ICU.

Tasmania reported 135 new cases, five deaths, 37 hospitalisations and one person in ICU.

The ACT reported 581 new cases, one death, 38 hospitalisations and one person in ICU.

The NT is yet to report its figures.
