To celebrate International Women’s Day 2022, we chatted with mechanical engineer Lauren Hanson from CSIRO. Lauren works in the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Group at CSIRO’s Data61. Her major work interest is mechanical design of robots. She was a member of the CSIRO Data61 team who competed at the DARPA Subterranean Challenge – AKA the robot Olympics – last year as covered in Issue 93 of Cosmos magazine.
In this interview, Lauren shares how she got interested in engineering and robots, her passion for space, and just how challenging the DARPA challenge really was.
